Self Concept: Why it Matters with Manifesting

I recently wrote an article about states of consciousness, and why they are important to understand when it comes to manifesting. In this article, I’m going to discuss self-concept and the importance of self-concept when it comes to manifesting, because these two concepts do tie together.

What is self-concept?

Many people assume that self-concept is the same thing as self-esteem. Self-concept does include this, however, self-concept goes beyond your self-esteem and also includes: the sum total of your beliefs and assumptions about yourself, other people, and the world around you. It is your identity, the story you have been telling yourself, the story you are experiencing based on your beliefs, your experiences, and your circumstances. It’s the sum of the ideas and patterns that define your sense of self. Everything that you experience in the 3D (i.e. every event, circumstance, etc.) is the result of your self-concept. It’s everything that you are identifying with, and whatever you are identifying with/as will determine the state of consciousness (or reality) that you experience.

Why is self-concept important when it comes to manifesting?

Self-concept is very important when it comes to manifesting because it determines your state of consciousness, which is what you will see out pictured in your 3D reality. This is why, regardless of what change you desire to see, the only way this change will occur is through a change in your conception of self. Even if you do manage to manifest something that you want, unless you’ve worked on your self-concept, the likelihood that you’ll be able to keep it is slim. A good example of this is lottery winners. Supposedly up to 1/3 of lottery winners end up being bankrupt within 10 years. The reason for this is due to their self-concept. They succeeded at manifesting large amounts of money in the 3D, but their self-concept still aligned with poverty and scarcity, and so they ended up reverting back to their dominant state.

How do we change our self-concept?

1. First, we want to get clear on what it is we are wanting to manifest. Then, we want to get clear on who the version of us who already has this is. For example, if you are wanting to manifest a loving relationship, who is the version of you who already has this? What are their inner qualities and beliefs? Get crystal clear on these things.

2. Then, use self-observation throughout your day and observe your thoughts and reactions. The majority of the time, most of us are running on autopilot. There came a point where I got very frustrated with manifesting because I was seeing little to no results. I started to observe my thoughts, reactions, and mental activity throughout my day and I found that a lot of the time, I was dwelling in a state of lack (I was doubting if things were going to work out for me, I was only focusing on what I didn’t have, etc.) or I would find myself in an unwanted state (having mental arguments with people from the past, thinking about unpleasant situations from the past, etc.).

3. Become aware of where you are dwelling in consciousness and if it differs from the version of you who has what it is you desire, redirect yourself to align with that state of being. There are several manifesting techniques that help you do this. Some examples of this are: listening to positive affirmations, visualizing and feeling what it would be like to be the version of you who already has your desires, the state akin to sleep technique, and more. 4. Persist in becoming this version of yourself.

It’s important to note that for a lot of people, changing your self-concept will involve deeper work than using manifesting techniques (myself included). I experienced a lot of trauma while growing up, which greatly shaped my self-concept. I have done many different healing modalities throughout my life. They all were helpful at different stages, however, if I had to recommend one healing modality that I believe is most effective, it would be one that incorporates working with the body (somatic),
soul retrieval, and revision, the reason being that these things are very effective at resolving the underlying issues from trauma rather than alleviating the symptoms of it. I offer sessions that incorporate all of these things and you can read about my experience with this here.
