Soul Loss And Soul Retrieval: What They Are And My Experience With Them
In this article, I’m going to discuss soul loss and soul retrieval, what they are, and how they have helped me on my spiritual journey.
Soul loss is (also known as soul fragmentation) is a form of soul division that takes place in response to an overwhelming or traumatic event, especially in children or teenagers. A piece of the soul fractal will split off from the main fractal, and stay in non-ordinary reality. Soul loss is a piece of the psyche or soul that is unavailable to us due to trauma. Examples of scenarios that can cause soul loss are:
A loved one passing away
Having major surgery
Getting into an accident
Emotional, physical, verbal or sexual abuse
Being abandoned
Being cheated on
Being betrayed
Codependency or domination by others
Soul loss is like a kind of self-defense mechanism, similar to dissociation, from the soul-level perspective. The part of our soul that has broken off tends to live in a “loop” and replay the events of what caused the soul loss, frozen and stuck in the events of the trauma.
Signs of soul loss include:
-Memory loss, especially chunks of time missing
-Feeling detached or empty, and sensing that a part of you is missing
-Long or strong periods of depression
-Emotional numbness, feeling disconnected from your emotions
-Feeling stuck around certain issues (e.g. when trying to deal with something, you end up in a loop and can’t get out of it)
-Escapism through drugs or alcohol
-Difficulty with being vulnerable (e.g saying, “I’m fine” constantly when this is not the case)
-Chronic illness (most people with chronic illness will have experienced soul fragmentation)
-Chronic fatigue, low vitality
-Repetitive self-sabotaging behaviors or unhealthy cycles
What is soul retrieval?
Soul retrieval is the process of retrieving the lost soul fragments and integrating them back into the psyche. There are a few different ways this can be done. It’s important to note that a soul fragment won’t return to the energy body if it is in the same condition as when it left. For example, if soul fragmentation occurred as a result of being in an abusive relationship, the soul fragment won’t return if the individual is still in an abusive relationship/continuing to be in the same circumstances. This is why there can sometimes be some other work that is needed before doing soul retrieval.
Soul retrieval can be done by:
-Setting the intention for your lost soul fragments to return
-Seeking the help of a shaman
-Through healing modalities that incorporate soul retrieval, such as Somatic Mindful Guided Imagery (SMGI)
I personally did soul retrieval through SMGI sessions. To give some background, I got sober back in 2012, and I consider this to be the start of my healing and spiritual journey. In the years that followed after getting sober, I did quite a bit of work to heal from the trauma I had experienced in childhood and as a teenager. I did psychotherapy, EMDR, neurofeedback, and energy work, to name a few. I did find these things helpful, but I was still finding myself feeling stuck, even after I had been sober for quite some time (around 9 years). I also found that I was still replaying unpleasant events in my head throughout my day to day- even though it had been nearly two decades since they had taken place. To make matters worse, I was waking up in the middle of the night (around the same time every night) screaming or having intense conversations with someone in my sleep, which not only disrupted my own sleep, but scared my poor husband and interrupted his sleep too. I was telling my friend about this and she told me she had just started seeing a hypnotherapist, and the results were very positive. This is how I was introduced to SMGI, and how I first experienced soul retrieval.
What was helpful about the process in these sessions is that we didn’t immediately jump into soul retrieval (although this can happen); for me, I needed to prepare my system and process certain things before doing this. Part of the SMGI process includes preparing your subconscious before meeting these lost parts of yourself, and getting rid of any energetic “clutter” that isn’t helpful (such as other peoples’ energy, cords of attachment, etc.). After I had done this, I began to reintegrate lost parts of myself, and I experienced a lot of positive changes. The sleep issues have completely stopped (my husband can attest to this). I ended a long-term relationship with someone in my life that I knew was draining me, and have experienced a lot more inner peace since doing this. Overall, I have more energy and vitality, and a lot of motivation to pursue the work I’m currently doing. I currently offer SMGI sessions and you can read more about SMGI and book a session here.
