Four Things I’d Tell My Younger Self About Manifesting

In this article, I’m going to discus some of the difficulties I’ve encountered since discovering conscious creation, in hopes that it might help others who are on a similar path. To give some background, I discovered conscious creation back in 2017 after hitting an emotional bottom from a toxic “situationship” I had been in and out of for about 2 years. I read the book, “Conversations with God” by Neale Donald Walsch and this was my first introduction to manifesting and the idea of conscious creation. I set the intention to manifest my soulmate, and from there a bridge of incidents unfolded that wasn’t easy (and took about 9 months) but I was ultimately successful with it and am now happily married to the person I do believe is a soulmate.

After I got married, I thought I had conscious creation figured out and that I would be able to manifest anything I wanted. This did not end up being the case, and I basically experienced what felt like bashing my head against the wall for years, trying all the popular manifesting laws (such as the law of attraction) and techniques. Eventually I discovered the law of assumption, which really resonated and got me back on track, but it still felt like I was dealing with these blocks/invisible forces, and I couldn’t figure out what they were. So, here are three things I’ve learned that I believe would have helped speed things up for me with manifestation:

1. Techniques do not manifest for you

There are several manifesting techniques out there, and they can be very helpful, however, they are ultimately not what makes us manifest. The point of any manifesting technique is to help get you into the feeling of already having what you want. There is no special technique that will do it for you.

For a long time, I thought if I visualized or said affirmations for a specific amount of time per day, or said affirmations a specific number of times per day, this would help me manifest. So I would say my affirmations every day, and then be done with it. What I didn’t realize at the time was the importance of self-observation and whether or not I was feeling the feeling of already having what I wanted throughout my day. Looking back, I’d say my affirmations and then the majority of the time, I was dwelling in a state of lack still throughout the day. Your dominant state of consciousness is what ultimately out pictures in the 3D, so saying affirmations all day and then dwelling in a state of lack got me nowhere.

Additionally, instead of spending so much time on finding the right technique, what I really should have been focusing on was becoming the version of me who already had what I wanted. For me, this involved a lot of work around self-concept (which is not only your self-esteem, but your beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and attitudes about things in general). This has involved looking at limiting beliefs I had, where they come from, and ultimately conditioning new beliefs, among other things. I also experienced a lot of trauma while growing up and have had to do quite a bit of work on this through various healing modalities, as this also shaped my self-concept.

2. What “feeling it real” really means

With manifesting, it’s pretty well known that in order to manifest what you want, you need to feel it real, as though you already have it. I used to equate this with strong emotions (i.e. being overjoyed, filled with gratitude, etc.). In Neville Goddard’s lectures, he talks about how the success of your manifestation is directly related to the degree in which your desired state feels natural and normal.

I thought I needed to feel these strong emotions in order to manifest, but when Neville talked about feeling it real, he meant feeling it as though it’s natural and normal. For example, when I first got engaged, I was ecstatic and over the moon! Four months later, I was still very happy and content, but not to the degree I was the day it happened, as being engaged was part of my normal routine by then.

So in order to manifest, I needed to feel it real as though it was already a normal part of my life.

3. Looking for signs when manifesting

This one really tripped me up for a long time. Looking for signs is something that is taught very heavily in the law of attraction community (by the way, I am not bashing this law. Anything I write is only an account of my own personal experiences and what has worked for me). There’s tons of content out there about signs that your manifestation is coming, what to look for, etc. This kept me in the habit of looking to the 3D to see if my manifestation was coming. 3D reality is basically just an out picturing of the contents of our subtle energy bodies (which includes the subconscious mind). In other words, it’s old manifestations, from what was subconsciously impressed a few weeks or even a few months ago. It’s equivalent to looking at a delayed mirror. So from this point of view, looking to the 3D to see if my manifestation was coming was actually hindering my progress, because it kept me in a state of lack (where is it? Is it here yet?) instead of turning inwards and going back to the end in my imagination. The goal is to know internally that what you desire is yours and that it is on its way, regardless of what external circumstances are showing you. So, the best way to gauge whether or not your manifestation is coming is based off of how you are feeling about it internally (do you know it’s yours? Or are you still doubting whether or not it will come?)

Because the 3D is just an out picturing of the contents of our subconscious minds, there may be no signs in the 3D at all that your manifestation is coming, until it all just comes together. It’s not a helpful gauge to use when it comes to how soon you are going to manifest what you want. Neville Goddard said in several of his lectures that “signs follow, they do not precede”. Which basically means that any sign you are seeing in the 3D (for example, seeing 555 or 1111), is just something that was impressed subconsciously and is now being given expression in the 3D*. I used to be a big believer in angel numbers and would constantly look out for them on license plates while driving, while browsing through social media, etc. and it gave me hope that these were signs things were progressing for me. But after Neville’s lectures, I reflected on this and realized that seeing them has never really led to any meaningful outcomes for me and it was keeping me hooked to the 3D (this is a habit I had for years).

*Side note: I’ve tested this in the past by manifesting smaller things I don’t normally see every day. I made a list of items I don’t usually see (a hot pink car, a purple car, even a rainbow turtle!) by visualizing the item and then dropping it and going about my every day life. I did end up seeing each of these things in the 3D which further reinforced what I mentioned above. I’d recommend this for anyone who is struggling with manifesting, just to build some confidence in your ability to manifest, or doubting whether or not the law of assumption works.

4. Karmic complexes

This was by far the biggest blind spot for me. I wrote another article on karmic complexes and you can read more about them here. Karmic complex is a term coined by the late past life repressionist Roger Woolger, and it is a past life wound that sits in your subtle energy bodies. Karmic complexes affect people subconsciously by creating limiting beliefs and causing them to attract experiences that are similar to the negative experience of the karmic complex. Unless the karmic complex is healed, someone who has this will continue to manifest according to what the karmic complex is broadcasting, and it will be extremely difficult to successfully manifest.
